Dear Val and Bill
I want to express Signes and my appreciation of our time with you in LA. Having us staying at your house and you showing us around were really great for us. Having such an opportunity when travelling adds very much for me.
The rest of our trip went along fine. We met with Wilma Violet and Mark in Fallbrook. She is getting older, she physically has a hard time getting around, but she is rather alert in her mind. She remembered very well Signe from her visiting us in Copenhagen about 20 years ago.
We met shortly with Bobbi, who together with her daughters was busy with a babyshower, and had lunch with Doug and his son-in law. The son-in-law came out to California from Kansas to marry and settle a few years ago. Talking to him made me realize that you have at least the same differences within the US, as we have within Europe. As with you, Doug was very 'recognizable' from the old days. His way of speaking and and his 'body-language' was very much unaltered. Driving up through the desert and Death Valley was a remarkable experience. We stopped in Bishop and met with Caddy Jackson and his wife. As he put it he is now living further out in the sticks, than when he grew up in Fallbrook. I think he was content.
You were right. You did help us, when booking a room for us at Yosemity. It was rather crowded. Wonder how is is, when the kids are out of school. It is splendid place. We walked and biked quite a lot at my speed.
Again thank you so very much for your hospitality. It was good to meet you.
Best wishes, Birger"
